"Confirmed" is doing a lot of work in GTA 6 coverage
Since the Extended Look aired on 27 August 2026, a large share of GTA 6 writing has presented the video, official statements and community inference as one body of fact. They are three different things. This page sorts the material by what actually backs it.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look
Rockstar's extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI. The official video page states it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. Premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 and released on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official Grand Theft Auto VI site the same day.
Confirmed by the video or by Rockstar
Capture is the foundation. Netflix identifies the presentation as in-game footage captured on PS5, rather than a hardware-independent animation.[32] VGC's write-up states it was a base PS5 [18].
The wanted system is the most heavily documented change. Six stars return, after GTA V capped the series at five, and the meter carries small icons showing what police know about your face, your clothes, whether you are armed and which car you were in [14][16][15]. Push Square notes that Rockstar has stopped showing police on the minimap entirely [14].
Character switching is confirmed as a mechanic rather than a story device: you can swap between Jason and Lucia during open-world play, and IGN reports switching may be disabled at certain story beats [17][14]. IGN also confirms the relationship is optional - there is no gameplay benefit to building romance, which makes it a roleplaying decision [17].
Other systems appear in the footage too: prompt-based NPC interactions in the Red Dead Redemption 2 style, a criminal profile that shifts with how you behave, car theft that depends on the age of the car, a Dead Eye-style bullet time and a 3D minimap [14][17][16]. Missions can be played solo or together, and the side activities shown run from fan boats and kayaks to racing and scuba diving [18][14].
Reported, but not from Rockstar's own pages
Frame rate sits here. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told visiting creators that the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second, and that a 60 FPS mode had not been decided; he also said he had no resolution or ray tracing details to give [19][20]. Digital Foundry's analysis of the extended look footage put it at a native 2560x1440 on PS5 with a stable 30 FPS - but that is a measurement of a video, not of the build you will buy [20]. Wikipedia records the 30 FPS point as a confirmation; the trail runs through a creator interview rather than a Rockstar statement, so treat it as reported rather than published [12][19].
Inference, not confirmed
No PC version has been announced; Wikipedia notes there is no Windows release scheduled as of September 2026, and a former Rockstar producer's explanation for console-first development is a rationale, not a date [12].
A 60 FPS performance mode, a resolution or ray tracing disclosure, and anything about GTA Online were all absent from the extended look and remain unknown [19][20].
Read the rest of the campaign the same way: a polished trailer is not a benchmark, and a developer caution about trailer fidelity still applies even now that gameplay has been shown [22].
The rule that keeps this straight
Three tiers are worth separating: what is visible in official in-game footage, what Rockstar has published on its own channels, and what was said in an interview or inferred from a pattern. The Extended Look moved a long list of systems from the third tier into the first. It did not move the PC version, the performance mode or GTA Online [12][19][20].
