Preload opens November 12

Rockstar has fixed a single preload date. Take-Two gives digital pre-order buyers November 12, 2026 as the first day to download the game ahead of its November 19 launch.[1] Rockstar's support documentation sharpens the timing to local midnight, so the download can start at the beginning of November 12 wherever you are.[2]

The Rockstar Store repeats the date as a banner on the game page: pre-load begins November 12, 2026.[3] On the PlayStation Store the same benefit appears in the edition contents as a seven-day pre-load window.[4] Seven days before November 19 is November 12, so the two descriptions are the same arrangement.

Physical buyers get the same window

The physical release is not an exception to the preload plan; it is built around it. The retail box supplies a redemption code rather than a disc, so its owner also needs to download the game.[3] Take-Two says the box itself will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading, and Rockstar's support page notes that codes can be redeemed as soon as they are received.[1][2]

So a code-in-box bought at retail is a preload copy too, provided the code is redeemed during the preload window rather than left in the case. Retail availability is dated to the same day: Rockstar says the physical version is expected to become available for shipping and pickup from retailers starting on November 12.[2]

There is no official file size

Rockstar has not published a download or install size for Grand Theft Auto VI. Mashable reported in August that Rockstar hasn't confirmed a file size for the game, and that the figures in circulation come from fan speculation rather than from Rockstar or Take-Two.[5]

One viral number deserves a specific warning. A widely shared image claiming the game's Xbox size is 676.7 GB is fake. Insider Gaming traced the post to a parody account and flagged the giveaway that the screenshot referenced installing on an Xbox One, a console the game is not coming to. The outlet judged the image inauthentic on that basis.[6]

What that means for launch night

Plan around what is actually confirmed - the November 12 preload start and the November 19 launch - and not around a gigabyte figure nobody official has given. Because the file size is unannounced, any storage advice you read is an estimate, including any piece that presents it as a requirement.[5][6]

The practical move is to open your console's store listing before November 12, confirm the displayed download size when it appears, and clear space then. Rockstar has confirmed the schedule; it has not confirmed the number.[5][6]
