Two editions, and only two
Grand Theft Auto VI is sold in two editions. The Standard Edition is $79.99. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99, and Take-Two describes it as adding extra vehicles, weapons, clothing and other additions to Jason and Lucia's campaign.[1]
Rockstar's support documentation confirms the same two SKUs and adds the detail that matters most if you are undecided: the Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought later. Standard owners can purchase the upgrade separately from the PlayStation or Microsoft stores after their Standard Edition code has been redeemed, and physical buyers can upgrade at any point after redeeming their download code.[2] Choosing Standard at checkout does not lock you out of the Ultimate content.
What the Ultimate Edition adds
Per Rockstar's own edition listing, the Ultimate Edition Upgrade bundles in-world unlocks rather than a preview window: the '95 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk and Little Morgan Revolvers, personalized weapon variants, Vice City Style, Jason's Safehouse Vehicles, the Ganado Retro Build, Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara's Unisex Salon, the Shitzu Squalo, Stock 305 Clothing Store, the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop, Goodtime Gear, the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store and the Classic Car Collection.[2][5]
None of that is early access. Rockstar has announced no edition that unlocks the game before November 19, 2026, and both editions launch on the same day.[2]
The pre-order bonus is identical on both
Both editions carry the same pre-order bonus. All pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan with a garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+ membership, which is redeemable immediately and unlocks the GTA+ Games Library.[2] Sony's store page lists both editions with the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ and a seven-day pre-load window attached to each.[4]
The practical read: the pre-order bonus is not a reason to pick Ultimate. It comes with either one.
The physical box is a download code
If you want a physical purchase, the Standard Edition is the box, and Rockstar is blunt about what is inside it: buyers receive a redemption code, not a game disc. That code lets them download the game during the November 12 preload window.[2] The store page repeats it, and Rockstar says the Ultimate Edition is offered digitally and can be added to a Standard copy through the upgrade.[2][3]
What is not an edition
The $399.99 Goodtime State - Vice City Collection is a merchandise box, not a third edition of the game. Rockstar's listing says the game is sold separately, so it does not change the choice above.[2] If you want to play on November 19, the decision is Standard or Ultimate, and the difference is content, not timing.[2][3]
